First reported by TMZ, the breaking news that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington is dead at 41 years of age, has been confirmed. Bandmate Mike Shinoda tweeted, “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”

The reports claim his death was suicide by hanging at his residence in Palos Verdes on July 20, 2017. Chester was married twice and is survived by his six children. Early reports indicate this may be in response to the death of his good friend Chris Cornell, who also committed suicide by hanging earlier this year. Today would have marked Chris’ 53rd birthday.
